Magnet-Free Efficiency. Engineered for Industrial Performance.
A new generation of motor technology built around efficiency, simplicity and material independence.
Volenza IE5 Synchronous Reluctance Motors combine a high-performance synchronous magnetic circuit with a robust magnet-free rotor architecture.
The result is an ultra-premium efficiency motor without permanent magnets or rare-earth materials.
RE-THINKING THE ROTOR
The rotor is at the heart of synchronous reluctance technology.
Unlike permanent magnet motors, the Volenza SynRM rotor does not depend on permanent magnets to generate torque.
Instead, torque is produced by the tendency of the rotor magnetic circuit to align with the rotating magnetic field.
This fundamental principle enables a rotor architecture with no magnets and no rare-earth materials while maintaining high efficiency and excellent dynamic performance.
HOW SYNCHRONOUS RELUCTANCE TECHNOLOGY WORKS
The rotor incorporates strategically designed flux barriers that create a difference between magnetic reluctance along the direct and quadrature axes.
When supplied by an appropriate drive, this saliency creates reluctance torque and enables synchronous operation.
The result:
No permanent magnets are required.
The motor does not depend on rare-earth permanent magnet materials.
The rotor architecture can substantially reduce rotor electrical losses compared with conventional induction motor operation.
The technology enables ultra-premium efficiency performance when correctly engineered as a motor-drive system.
Lower rotor losses support favourable thermal characteristics.
ROTOR ENGINEERING — WHERE THE TECHNOLOGY COMES ALIVE
Volenza SynRM technology is built around precision rotor geometry.
Flux barriers are designed using electromagnetic simulation to control:
Designed around:
- Direct-axis inductance
- Quadrature-axis inductance
- Reluctance torque
- Torque ripple
- Power factor
- Mechanical integrity
- Rotor losses
- Structural stress
Finite Element Analysis is used to evaluate the electromagnetic and mechanical behaviour of the rotor before physical validation.
The objective is not simply to create a magnet-free rotor.
It is to create a rotor that performs predictably across the complete operating envelope.
MOTOR + DRIVE = THE COMPLETE SYSTEM
SynRM technology reaches its full potential when the motor and drive are engineered as one system.
Volenza SynRM solutions can therefore be optimized around:
- Motor operating point
- Drive characteristics
- Load profile
- Speed range
- Starting requirements
- Process dynamics
- Thermal envelope
This system-level approach allows the motor to operate efficiently across variable-speed applications.
WHY SYNRM?
Designed to achieve IE5-class efficiency performance with reduced losses.
No permanent magnets in the rotor.
Reduces dependence on rare-earth permanent magnet materials.
The rotor does not rely on conventional squirrel-cage current for torque production.
Optimized electromagnetic geometry supports strong torque production within the available frame envelope.
Lower rotor losses can contribute to improved temperature management.
The motor platform can be designed around familiar industrial motor construction and maintenance practices.

ENGINEERING WITH FEWER COMPROMISES
The future of industrial motion will not be defined by a single motor technology.
It will be defined by the ability to match the right technology to the right application.
Volenza SynRM technology provides another path toward ultra-premium efficiency—one that combines advanced electromagnetic engineering with a magnet-free rotor architecture.
No magnets. No rare earths. No compromise on engineering ambition
